Icarus Capital Officially Acquires Yuk Yuk’s Surrey and Celebrates with the Re-launch of the Greater Vancouver Yuk Off Competition

Richmond, British Columbia (July 23, 2024) - In a significant milestone for Icarus Capital Corporation, the company has expanded its comedy club portfolio by acquiring Yuk Yuk’s Surrey. To mark this exciting development, Icarus Capital has re-launched the renowned Greater Vancouver Yuk Off stand-up comedy competition.

Following the approval at Icarus Capital Corp’s most recent Annual General Meeting, the company has completed the acquisition of all outstanding shares of Yuk Yuk’s Surrey (Yuischi Inc.), previously owned by Garry Yuill, who also serves as the CFO of Icarus Capital. Yuk Yuk’s Surrey joins the expanding roster of Icarus Capital’s comedy ventures, which includes Yuk Yuk’s Calgary, Yuk Yuk’s Media, and Yuk Yuk’s Western Canadian Theatre Shows.

“This expansion has been in the works for quite some time, and we are thrilled to officially bring Yuk Yuk’s Surrey into our operations. Our goal is to build and acquire more clubs across Western Canada,” shared Eric Y. Lapointe, CEO of Icarus Capital and Yuk Yuk’s Media. “The timing couldn’t be better as we re-launch the Greater Vancouver Yuk Off competition, a platform that spotlights the region’s rising comedic talents.”

The Greater Vancouver Yuk Off competition, now running its eighth edition, will feature over 60 competitors from across British Columbia. The event consists of six weeks of preliminary rounds, with the remaining rounds scheduled for July 25th, August 8th, and August 15th. Eighteen comedians will advance to the semi-finals on August 22nd and August 29th, with only six making it to the finale on September 5th. The winner of the 2024 Yuk Off will receive a top prize of $1,000, while the runner up will walk away with $250, courtesy of the premier sponsor Moving Forward Family Services (@movingforwardfamilies), a non-profit organization providing affordable counseling services across BC, and the silver sponsor West Coast Pedorthics (@westcoastpedorthics), specializing in custom foot orthotics, knee bracing, and ankle bracing.

The Yuk Off competition has been a springboard for many talented comedians including current Yuk Yuk’s headliners Harris Anderson, Steev Letts, Chris Griffin and Juno-award winning comic Jacob Samuel. This year promises to be no different, with top local talent vying for the coveted title.
